Rusty Brothers S&D Gets Its Own Identity

Our Search & Destroy server had already been running for quite some time. But the more we worked on other parts of Rusty Brothers, the more obvious it became that the server itself still felt a little too ordinary.

So we decided to change that.

What was originally supposed to be just a few small tweaks gradually turned into something much bigger. We started redesigning the loading screen, game menus, information screens, automatic messages, and many other little details players encounter while playing.

Not everything went according to plan. Some changes conflicted with each other, others even prevented players from connecting to the server, and several times we had to take a step back and find a different solution.

But that process eventually led to the creation of our own Rusty add-on — one that lets zPAM do what it does best while giving the server an identity of its own.

The changes also included a new FastDL system. Instead of waiting around for downloads, the required files now arrive within just a few seconds, letting players jump straight into the game.

At first glance, the result might not look like a massive change.

And that's exactly how we wanted it.

Search & Destroy is still the classic CoD2 experience we love.

It just feels a little more like ours now.
